Google doesn’t usually take up a lot of time with CES to show off something new, but rather to highlight what it’s effective at doing with all of its partners. We all did get some fun news regarding digital sticky notes, but that clearly basically the focus. As a result, the Google presentation area is usually a huge way to show off various options but not a ton of necessarily new items. This gives Google the space to have a few fun, which is has been doing to magnificent effect over the last couple of years. You may keep in mind the mini rollercoaster Google built inside its booth last year, for example.
This year, there are no roller coasters. Instead, there’s a deeply interactive trip and a great big slide. Here’s a glance at what you’re missing if you fail to make it to Las Vegas this week.
Everything starts off with this doorway. You are several six, walked through the door simultaneously and told you’ll need to work together to be able to through this experience.
As you enter this Mud Room, your Search engines Assistant Guide gives you a symbol with a number on it. Your job on this “ride” is to speak the instructions you see projected on the walls whenever your number shows up.
There’s the disembodied voice from overhead detailing it will be your guide through a day time in the life of someone who utilizes Google Assistant for everything and exactly how it saved them from devastation.
The next room is, predictably, filled with Google hardware.
The disembodied voice describes everyone in the area as weary travelers with hands full of tote bags, not-so-subtly teasing us for being here at CES whilst also calling itself out for the item placement all over.
You are standing in the life span of a couple who desperately consider a new hip food, the Cash and Brussels Burrata di Bufala Risotto Burrito.
Go forward, say that out loud. You’ll immediately discover why Google chose this silly matter to say over and over again during this experience.
The following room has a fake car for everybody to get in, with a giant display screen to show you Google Maps and a method to accept calls from your phone plus use your voice for everything.
You’re driving along when abruptly, the place which sells this amazing meal you just had to try is no longer offered. You now have to go get the components to make this yourself! A quick revolves on Google Maps to the latest marketplace sets you on your way.
You get to the particular grocery store, but then the disembodied tone of voice asks if any of you inside your group know how to cook. I elevated my hand, and that’s when I realized that disembodied voice wasn’t a recording. It had been a person, who was now describing me personally and asking if I had available this specific dish before. I, of course, have not, and so the disembodied voice indicated concern that I was going to be able to create all of this happen in time. But with the aid of Google Assistant to look up the formula and show us what ingredients all of us needed, this might just work.
Another plot twist, some of the your meals are measured in grams when the formula calls for a different unit of dimension. Fortunately, the Assistant will tell you the actual conversion rate is so you can get the correct amount. Yay product placement!
Now it can time to rush home and actually have this meal made. With Google Associate, you can tell your oven to warm up before you get home so it’s ready if you are, as well as send the recipe for your smart display for spoken step by step directions. Need a specific amount of drinking water? Tell your smart faucet to eliminates the exact amount and be good to go.
This part of the demo got just a little silly, as Google Assistant can also be used to turn on the Instant Pot plus enable a food processor. Right now, there is no way for Assistant to work with an immediate Pot. When I brought this upward, the guide smiled and stated “This is an interactive experience!” so… cool, I guess.
The meal is completed just in time for your partner to exhibit up in the smart doorbell in order to let you know they’re home. You made it happen! It’s time to celebrate with a journey down that giant slide for the back of this building. And when one does, you’re given a ten-second video which you can then share with the world.
Honestly, I really like that Google takes the opportunity to become silly at events like this. These types of experiences stick with you, and providing people a reason to interact rather than just sit still is a great way to ensure these people remember some of these Assistant commands can be found.
